 EN10025-4 S420M is a fine-grained structural steel plate grade with a nominal yield strength of 420 MPa, designed to meet the specific requirements of various construction and engineering applications. This grade is part of the European standard for hot-rolled structural steels, and it is particularly appreciated for its excellent mechanical properties and weldability.

Chemical Composition:

The chemical composition of S420M is strictly controlled to ensure the required mechanical properties and weldability. The typical chemical composition is as follows:

· Carbon (C): ≤ 0.19%

· Silicon (Si): ≤ 0.60%

· Manganese (Mn): ≤ 1.70%

· Phosphorus (P): ≤ 0.025%

· Sulfur (S): ≤ 0.015%

· Aluminum (Al): ≥ 0.020%

· Niobium (Nb): ≤ 0.05%

· Titanium (Ti): ≤ 0.03%

· Vanadium (V): ≤ 0.12%

· Nitrogen (N): ≤ 0.015%

Mechanical Properties:

The mechanical properties of S420M are as follows:

· Yield Strength: ≥ 420 MPa

· Tensile Strength: 520 - 680 MPa

· Elongation: ≥ 19%

· Impact Energy : ≥ 27 J

Thermal Treatment:

S420M steel plates are supplied in the thermomechanically rolled condition (M), which provides a fine-grained microstructure and enhanced mechanical properties without the need for further heat treatment after delivery.

Low-Temperature Impact Test:

The material is subjected to a low-temperature impact test at -20°C to ensure its toughness and resistance to brittle fracture under such conditions.
